Field Portable Handheld Recirculating Surface Acoustic Wave And Method For Operating The Same
Patent Number: US 11,020,741 B2
Date Filed: June 1, 2021
Country Filed In: USA
Product Application: PRIMUS Pathogen Detection
Description:
A system and method for performing a portable, fast, field assay of a small sample biological analyte include a microfluidic cartridge and a reader with which the microfluidic cartridge is selectively communicated. A closed microfluidic circuit mixes and recirculates the analyte with a buffer. A sheer horizontal surface acoustic wave (SAW) detector communicates with the microfluidic circuit and has a plurality of channels including at least one functionalized sensing channel in which the mixed analyte and buffer is recirculated and sensed. The capture of the analyte is amplified by recirculation of the analyte and buffer, and detection is amplified by the use of an all-purpose endospore display mass amplification.
Field of Use: PRIMUS is the first generation of portable handheld pathogen detection technologies created by Josh Shachar and his Engineering Team. The device utilized a whole new method of taking a fluid sample in the field and allowing biomarker detection to occur via surface acoustic wave generation. PRIMUS utilized a unique Lab-On-A-CHip technology that allowed the complete detection process to occur on a small disposable chip that was pre-defined to detect a specific biomarker. Detection of a suspected biomarker occurs within minutes and with clinically relevant results. The PRIMUS reader was also capable of communicating the data through a secure wireless protocol to cloud storage for immediate dissemination and review by applicable healthcare provides.
