System For Use In Footwear For Measuring, Analyzing, And Reporting The Performance Of An Athlete
Patent Number: WO 00/33031
Date Filed: November 24, 1999
Country Filed In: WIPO
Product Application: SMART Shoe
Description:
A shoe has a module that detects changes in the acceleration and pressure of a user's foot. The module includes a sensor platform unit, an accelerometer, a pressure generator, a plurality of light emitting diodes, and a speaker. The sensor platform unit senses the user's acceleration and foot pressure. The accelerometer senses the acceleration forces applied on the user as a result of locomotion.
Field of Use: The SMART SHoe was one of Josh's earliest technology developments. The shoe provided a vast array of improvements over the existing technologies thatr were used to measure a persons, stride, gait and distance traveled. The shoe had a module that detected changes in the acceleration and pressure of a user's foot. The sensor platform unit sensed the user's acceleration and foot pressure. The accelerometer sensed the acceleration forces applied on the user as a result of locomotion. The system further included a portable interface/controller that provided the user with feedback information such as audio information including FM radio, visual, graphical, and programming interface. A microcontroller stored the analyzed data concerning the athlete's performance and an audio memory device stored pre-recorded words and messages used for interactive real-time feedback.
